This was announced in a statement issued on Friday by Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
According to the statement, the curfew, which takes effect immediately, will be enforced from 6 PM to 6 AM daily until lasting peace is restored.
Earlier reports indicated that several people were feared dead, and many others were displaced following a resurgence of the crisis between the warring communities of Ilobu and Ifon.
The statement reads:
"His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed deep concern and dissatisfaction over the outbreak of fresh communal clashes in Ilobu and Ifon.
"As a result, the Governor has directed that the initial 10 PM to 4 AM curfew be extended to 6 PM to 6 AM, effective today, Friday, 21st March 2025, until further notice.
"The Governor has also instructed the joint security team, comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to maintain 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance for any acts of lawlessness."
Additionally, the Governor has called for an immediate stakeholders’ meeting, scheduled for Saturday, 22nd March 2025. The meeting will include the Olufon of Ifon, HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, the Olobu of Ilobu, HRM Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, and other key stakeholders from both communities to discuss further conflict resolution measures.
Finally, Governor Adeleke urges all residents, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in the affected communities to embrace peace and coexist harmoniously. He warned that anyone found aiding or abetting violence would face strict consequences.
