πŸ’Ž NYSC Announces New Monthly Allowance for Corps Members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has announced a significant increase in the monthly allowance for all corps members. Effective from March 2025, all corps members will receive N77,000 per month.

Announcement of corps members receiving a N77k allowance starting March, with N430.7bn allocated to NYSC by the Federal Government.

πŸ’Ž Commitment to Corps Members' Welfare

Brig.-Gen. Nafiu emphasized that the NYSC and the Federal Government are committed to the welfare of corps members and will ensure their well-being remains a top priority. He made this statement during his interaction with corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja on Thursday.

πŸ’Ž Encouragement and Appreciation

The NYSC Director-General expressed gratitude to the corps members for their selfless service to the nation. He encouraged them to remain calm, dedicated, focused, and disciplined in their duties. He also praised the founding father of the NYSC for conceiving the vision of the Scheme, urging everyone to support the NYSC in fulfilling its mandate.

πŸ’Ž NYSC’s Core Values

General Nafiu described the NYSC as a valuable program that builds bridges and exposes graduate youths to cultural experiences beyond their places of birth. He affirmed that the management would continue to instill values such as patriotism, discipline, self-restraint, good morals, leadership qualities, and teamwork in future batches of corps members.

πŸ’Ž Increase in Monthly Allowance

Brig.-Gen. Nafiu assured the corps members that, with effect from March, they would begin receiving N77,000 as their monthly allowance. He emphasized that NYSC is reliable when it comes to record-keeping and assured that payments would be made promptly.

πŸ’Ž Corps Members’ Response

A serving corps member, Zaka Deborah Alheri, representing Garki Zone, expressed appreciation on behalf of her colleagues for the efforts made by the Director-General in ensuring the timely payment of the increased allowance.

πŸ’Ž NYSC Budget for 2025

The NYSC is expected to spend approximately N307.6 billion on mobilization and allowances for corps members in 2025. The 2025 budget proposal, presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu in December 2024, allocated N430.7 billion to the NYSC—the highest allocation in the past five years. Out of this amount, N372.9 billion (86.5%) is designated specifically for corps members’ allowances.

πŸ’Ž Mobilization and Allowances Breakdown

Each year, the NYSC mobilizes between 1,200 and 1,500 corps members per orientation batch, across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This totals an average of 55,500 corps members per batch, with three batches annually (A, B, and C), leading to a total of 333,000 corps members mobilized annually.

With the increased allowance of N77,000 per corps member, the total payment for one batch amounts to N25.64 billion. This brings the total yearly allocation for corps members’ allowances to N307.6 billion.
