Veteran Nollywood actress Dupe Jaiyesimi recently shared her emotional journey through infertility and childlessness, revealing that she had no child to celebrate her 60th birthday.
In a heartfelt interview on Biola Adebayo’s podcast, Jaiyesimi expressed her deep sadness over not having children to mark the milestone.
She recalled a painful moment when she was once pregnant but tragically lost the baby. Medical tests later confirmed that it was an ectopic pregnancy, meaning the baby was growing outside her womb.
“I was once pregnant, but the scan showed that the baby was growing outside the womb,” she revealed. “After a few weeks, I lost the pregnancy.”
Her heartbreak was compounded by a devastating betrayal in her marriage.
Shortly after her miscarriage, Jaiyesimi’s husband brought another woman into their home—already expecting his child. Unable to endure the pain, she made the difficult decision to leave the marriage.
“After I lost the pregnancy, my husband brought another woman home, and she was already carrying his baby,” she recounted. “I had no choice but to walk away, and since then, I have remained single.”
Despite her strong desire for motherhood, Jaiyesimi faced years of infertility. She underwent two rounds of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), but both attempts failed.
At one point, she considered adoption, but her late mother discouraged her.
“I attempted IVF twice, but it failed,” she shared. “At a point, I thought of adopting, but my mother warned me not to bring a child I didn’t conceive into my life.”
Reflecting on her decision to remain single, she explained that many of the men she encountered were not seeking genuine companionship but only wanted to take advantage of her.
“Most men just wanted a piece of me, so I decided to stay single,” she said.
The actress, once a prominent figure in Yoruba cinema, revealed that she has been absent from the industry for over seven years. During this time, she neither acted in films nor produced any projects.
“The only thing I know how to do best is acting, but I have not been in movies for over seven years,” she lamented. “I haven’t produced any either.”
Despite her struggles, Jaiyesimi remains hopeful, believing that as long as she is alive, there is still a possibility of becoming a mother.
Her unwavering faith in the future keeps her going. “As long as there is life, there is hope,” she declared. “I still believe I can have my own child.”
Her story has deeply resonated with many, especially women facing similar challenges. Fans and colleagues have flooded social media with messages of support, praising her resilience and courage.
While some applauded her for prioritizing self-respect over a toxic marriage, others encouraged her to keep hope alive for motherhood.
