Dr. Olajide Adediran (Jandor) Defects to APC After Resigning from PDP
Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, a former Lagos State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jandor made the announcement during a press conference at his campaign office in Ikeja on Monday.
His defection to the APC comes just two weeks after his resignation from the PDP. Following his resignation, Jandor held consultations with several political figures, including President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Jandor's spokesperson, Gbenga Ogunleye, confirmed the meeting between Jandor and President Bola Tinubu, which took place last week Monday. The statement also mentioned that Jandor had met with other national leaders such as former President Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, and 2023 SDP presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo. These meetings were part of Jandor's ongoing consultations after his departure from the PDP.
The PDP National Secretary and other party leaders had also visited Jandor to appeal for his reconsideration. Jandor is set to meet with his political associates and key stakeholders in Lagos over the weekend and address the media by Monday, March 17, 2025.
Jandor was the PDP's candidate for the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, emerging victorious in the primaries after defeating other aspirants. A former APC member and founder of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Jandor initially presented himself as an alternative to the long-standing APC government in Lagos.
To broaden his appeal, Jandor chose popular Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele as his running mate, leveraging her influence among Lagos youth and urban voters. Despite their efforts, the Jandor-Akindele ticket was unable to unseat the APC government. They finished behind incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Labour Party candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
In March 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sanwo-Olu the winner of the Lagos governorship election held on March 18, 2023.
