A Career That Left a Mark
Patrick Okoye, full name Patrick Chukwura Okoye, was born on March 17, 1990, in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra State, Nigeria. His film credits include "Finding a Wife" (2022), "The Jagaban" (2025), "The Lion" (2025), "Midnight Love" (2003), "Old School" (2002), and "Over My Dead Body" (2002).
He was not just a face on screen — he was a force in every room he entered. The nickname "Energy" was not given lightly. It was earned, scene by scene, film by film, across a career that spanned more than two decades of Nigerian cinema.
The Professor Who Poured Into the Next GenerationPatrick Okoye was not only known for his roles in Nollywood productions — he was also a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), noted for his contributions to the university's theatre arts and cinema studies programs.
In a statement signed by Dr. Nkemakonam Aniukwu, Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at UNIZIK, the university community expressed deep sorrow. The department described the late actor and teacher as a vibrant soul, a distinguished personality in Nollywood, an exceptional teacher, and a mentor who touched many lives through his work in entertainment and academics.
For his students, this is not just the loss of a lecturer. It is the loss of a guide.
Tributes From a Heartbroken IndustryThe reactions have been raw and real. Tributes have poured in from colleagues and students alike, with one fan writing: "RIP, sir. We lost a great person in Nollywood. Now it's scary to watch Nollywood because the one who just makes you follow the movies today, you will receive the news of his death the next day."
Another simply wrote: "Wow! Too pity! My lecturer! Patrick Okoye!"
The words say everything about who he was — a man loved on screen and in the classroom in equal measure.
A Loss That Hits DifferentlyOkoye's passing comes just weeks after another Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, passed away after battling ill health. The industry is reeling. Two losses in quick succession is a pain no community should have to carry — and yet Nollywood is being asked to carry it again.
Patrick "Energy" Okoye was more than an actor. He was a builder — of stories, of students, of a legacy that will live on in every film he made and every young talent he mentored.
Rest in peace, legend.
