Nollywood actor and political aspirant Emeka Ike has had enough. In a move that has sparked fierce debate about privacy, impunity, and the misuse of government data, the senior aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike allegedly shared Ike's personal voter information — pulled directly from an INEC administrative portal — on social media. Now Emeka Ike is making clear: he is not letting this go.
| Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has vowed to take action after his personal INEC voter data was allegedly exposed online. |
Emeka Ike, a native of Imo State, had been seeking the House of Representatives seat for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory under the Nigerian Democratic Congress. It was in that political context that Lere Olayinka — Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike — took to X to question Ike's eligibility to contest in Abuja.
What Olayinka Posted — And Why It Caused an Uproar
On his X handle, Olayinka wrote:
"Emeka Ike was a registered voter in Imo State. He only transferred his INEC Registration to the FCT on May 15, 2026 (15 days ago). And he wants to contest for House of Reps in Abuja! Someone who has never voted in the FCT o. What happened to his Imo State? This Obidient people enh!!!"
Attached to that post were two images that many social media users immediately flagged as screenshots taken directly from INEC's administrative login portal — a restricted government system. The screenshots reportedly contained Ike's application number, registration centre, Voter Identification Number, profile picture, name, and date of application.
The question Nigeria began asking was not whether Ike transferred his voter registration — it was how a government aide got access to restricted INEC data in the first place.
Emeka Ike Speaks Out — "The Height of Political Rascality"
Reacting on Channels Television's The Morning Brief, Ike did not mince words. He described the incident as shocking and a direct attack on every Nigerian's right to privacy:
"It's quite shocking, extreme, and it is the height of political rascality for a government officer to access a citizen's information from the INEC cyber. It tells you a lot; it shows how much impunity we have flying around, and people have access to things they shouldn't be having access to, and that's quite deplorable. I see that as a huge insult and slap on every political party and every Nigerian."
He went further to warn that the danger of this kind of action extends far beyond his personal situation:
"He is telling every Nigerian that whoever you are, I can pull your information from anywhere and I can do what I want, and that rascality needs to be stopped."
And on whether he intends to take action, Ike was unambiguous:
"Actions are ready, I'm ready to take him on. He has no right to exploit my privacy and insult Nigerians the way he did. If he has been doing it in the past, this should be the last time he does it."

Why Ike Is Contesting in Abuja — Not Imo
Ike also used the interview to address why he chose to contest in the FCT rather than his home state of Imo. He explained it was not his original plan:
A Story Bigger Than One Actor"I actually wanted to run in my state, but a couple of people came to me. It was like a clarion call. People came to me and told me, 'Sir, you need to do this now, we need you in Abuja.' And I'm like, you know I'm already trying to run in my state, but they insisted and the surge was high, and I considered it, seeing the relevant issues they brought on board, and I said okay fine, let's see how we can build Abuja. A municipal area needs to be properly guarded and looked into, so I decided to shift to Abuja."
Whether or not one agrees with Emeka Ike's political ambitions, what Lere Olayinka allegedly did raises questions that go far beyond this one incident. If a government aide can access restricted INEC data and post it publicly to make a political point — what does that say about the security of every Nigerian's personal information held by the electoral commission?
This is not just about Emeka Ike. This is about the integrity of Nigeria's electoral database and the impunity with which power can be weaponised against ordinary citizens and public figures alike.
